Kaiser Coverage for Eye Exams in Seattle
Maintaining your eye health is crucial, and at Cannon EyeCare in Seattle, we’re dedicated to helping you understand your Kaiser benefits for eye care. We believe everyone deserves access to quality eye care, which is why we want to make navigating your insurance as easy as possible. Understanding Kaiser Coverage for Eye Exams in Seattle can be challenging, but Cannon EyeCare is here to help.

Does My Kaiser PPO Plan Cover Routine Eye Exams?
Most Kaiser PPO plans have vision coverage, although some have a copay (typically $30), and others don’t cover vision exams. Even if your plan doesn’t cover routine vision care like a check for a glasses Rx or contact lenses, Kaiser’s PPO plans will allow us to bill them for medical eye exams and related testing. This includes annual eye exams for individuals with diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye, cataracts and other eye diseases.
Will I be in network if I have Kaiser Core or Kaiser HMO?
In a word, no. Kaiser Core members can only use insurance for eye care at a Kaiser facility. Kaiser HMO plans almost never work out with Cannon EyeCare. If you have a Kaiser HMO and want to work with Cannon EyeCare, the first step will be asking your Kaiser primary care doctor for a referral to Cannon EyeCare.
What’s Covered with Kaiser Permanente’s medical PPO coverage?
- Annual eye exams for medical conditions: If you have diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, or other eye diseases, we will be able to bill Kaiser for your yearly medical eye exam.
- Diagnostic eye exams: When medically necessary, Kaiser may also cover diagnostic tests and exams.
- Treatment for eye conditions: Kaiser covers treatment for cataracts, dry eye, and other common medical eye issues.
- Office visits for chronic eye conditions: Kaiser will cover part of your follow up visits for the management of chronic medical eye problems.
- Please note that deductibles and copays will apply: we have to follow our contractional obligations with your insurance company just like you do.
- Typically with Washington-based Kaiser Permanente plans our doctors will be able to look up copays and deductibles for you. With out of state plans we rarely can get this information; although the information may be printed on the front of your insurance card.
