Conditions Treated

At Cannon EyeCare in Seattle, WA, we provide treatments for a variety of conditions to improve your vision. Whether you’re seeking personalized care for cataracts, dry eye or glaucoma, our team is happy to help. Before visiting us, learn about some conditions we treat below:

Glaucoma

Glaucoma refers to a group of eye diseases that cause optic nerve damage and vision loss. When you visit us, we will provide comprehensive eye exams to check for elevated eye pressure and nerve changes. Afterward, we’ll offer glaucoma treatment, which may include eye drops, or potentially referral to a specialist for surgery to lower pressure and prevent further damage.

Cataracts

A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, which causes blurry vision and light sensitivity. We check for early cataract formation during routine eye exams. When a cataract impacts daily life, we discuss surgery options like phacoemulsification to remove the clouded natural lens and replace it with an artificial intraocular lens to restore your vision.

Dry Eye

Dry eye disease is a common condition that occurs when the eyes do not produce enough high-quality tears to stay lubricated. This leads to sensations of burning, itch, grittiness, and/or excessive watering. Our optometrists offer advanced diagnostic testing to understand the root causes of dry eyes, such as tear deficiencies or eyelid conditions. Based on the results, we can recommend prescription eye drops, in-office procedures, hydrating masks, and other therapies to effectively treat dry eyes.  Dr. Mark Cannon specializes in dry eye.

Diabetic Eye Disease

Diabetic eye disease is a group of retinal conditions that can occur in individuals with diabetes. We carefully monitor the eye health of diabetic patients for signs of damage. Our eye doctors will ask diabetic patients to be dilated at their annual eye exam; often we do annual photos to screen for (or document) changes in the retina from diabetic retinopathy.  In severe or vision-threatening cases we may refer out for injections or laser surgery to slow the progression of eye diseases like diabetic retinopathy and macular edema.  Most cases do not require surgical intervention to prevent vision loss. It’s also important for patients to strictly monitor their blood sugar levels.

Allergies

Environmental allergies can impact the eyes, causing redness, swelling, itch/discomfort and tearing. If over-the-counter remedies do not relieve allergy eye symptoms, we might suggest prescription antihistamine eye drops or medications for relief. Identifying triggers and limiting exposure can also help.  There are many types of allergy eye drops on the market, and they are not all created equal. We will be able to get you on the most effective drops to resolve your allergy symptoms.

Some patients also have significant eyelid swelling or dermatitis that can result from seasonal allergy.  The doctors at Cannon EyeCare are well versed in addressing these issues as well.
